How to sort your waste

Cardboard and paper
  • Clean cardboard and paper
  • Beverage cartons
  • Cartons for sauces, pudding etc.
  • Newspapers and   advertising
  • Magazines
  • Cardboard packaging for pizzas, cereal etc.

This is to be thrown in the paper bin or container for paper.

We empty the paper bin every four weeks. If you have your own private paper bin, look for  the  sticker with a color and weekday printed on it. This tells you when the paper is being collected.

Look for your dates in this calendar (PDF)

Example: If the sticker on the paper bin says “Friday” and the colour is orange, your dates for collection are Fridays in the weeks that are colored orange in the calendar.

Plastic packaging

  • Clean plastic packaging for ketchup, meat, soap etc.
  • Plastic cans and cups
  • Plastic bags and foil
  • Plastic packaging for electronics etc.

Put the plastic in a special bag from BIR. These bags are available in most grocery stores or at our recycling stations.

If you have your own paper bin,  you can place the bag next to this bin and we will collect it on the same day that we collect paper. Otherwise you can put the plastic in a public/shared container for plastic.

Residual waste

  • Soiled plastic and paper
  • Wrapping paper and ribbons
  • Napkins
  • Damaged clothing and shoes
  • Food scraps, unless you use a composter
  • Diapers
  • Styrofoam
  • Broken ceramics and glassware
  • Broken non-electric toys
  • Non-packaging plastics

Put the waste in a regular plastic bag and tie a tight knot.
Place it in the rubbish bin or container.

The rubbish bin is emptied every week. If you need to know the weekday, contact our customer service at bir@bir.no or call 815 33 030.
